Bell supports Haiti disaster relief

Bell supports Haiti disaster relief

Bell continues to respond to the tragedy in Haiti by supporting aid organizations and government agencies providing much-needed help to those in need.

Donations
  • Bell Canada made immediate cash contributions totalling $125,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Fund and UNICEF.
  • Bell team members have so far contributed more than $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross thanks to a site that was created specifically to make it easy for our employees to donate.
  • Working with the Mobile Giving Foundation, Bell enables customers to send $5 donations by text message to a wide variety of charities that support the Haiti relief efforts. As of January 25, Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile and Solo Mobile customers had donated approximately $140,000. Visit www.mobilegiving.ca for details on the program.

Ensemble pour Haïti telethon

On January 22 in Montréal, the Ensemble pour Haïti telethon raised more than $6.5 million to support relief efforts. Bell donated toll-free lines and the telethon's largest fundraising call centre, staffed by almost 400 enthusiastic Bell volunteers. The team answered 44,000 calls per hour, almost three times the anticipated call volume.

La Maison d'Haïti

Bell is helping La Maison d'Haïti provide counselling and other support services to Canadians with relatives in Haiti by donating call centre phone lines, telecom equipment and training, Web site production, and a toll-free number. Operations teams at Bell have the main call centre up and running and will expand service to additional regional call centres this week. La Maison d'Haïti's counselling service can be reached at 1 888-96HAITI.
